jinxes for good and evil

I should be on a plane about now and almost to Bozeman, but I’m still here in Florida. I don’t have another flight back until the 23rd. Not that I mind or anything :p

Due to an assortment of car troubles (have I mentioned that my jinxes extend to include cars besides my own?), Eric and I got stuck in Miami a little longer than planned. But thats ok cause we got to stay in the Embassy Suites. Dude, it was the biggest hotel I have ever seen. I got to see lots of downtown Miami. It’s the biggest city I think I have ever seen. It was like being on a movie show or something. There were lots of skyscrapers and groovy places and classy places and places with famous people. Ashton Kutcher came into the News Cafe when we were there. I did not recognize him, but Eric told me that’s who it was. And I got to see the Ocean at South Beach. It was so awsome to see the ocean and then see the huge lit up city right next to it. There was never anyone on that little beach both times we were there. Quite of a striking contrast in ambience to the big city behind it.

We could have driven the rental car back to Tallahassee, but then Eric wasn’t sure how he would get his car back.

Oh, and poor poor Eric. . . On the way to Miami, before his car completely broke down, he got stuck in a little town (I forget where) and had a fit about city planning. His clutch was already giving him trouble and he couldnt change gears too often, so it made the situation all the more stressful. They had closed down the primary road to get back onto the Turnpike and Eric had a heck of a time trying to find a way out and getting stuck at many stop signs with all the other traffic trying to go around the closed road. He sounded just like papa saying “If I was a city planner. . .” and “What kind of intelligence is this. . . .” After a while he didnt sound upset or even irritated, he just sounded pathetic. I wanted to feel sorry for him but I couldnt help but laugh a couple of times.

We barely made it to Miami and the car completely gave up as soon as we entered the city. It was bloody hot outside and I was starving to death and my ankle hurt like you wouldnt believe cause I had sprained it the previous day at Disney World. We had to walk to the Steak n Sheak near by and wait for Erics mother and Grandfather to come get us. I felt like I was going to pass out walking cause two different crazy miami drivers almost ran into us and it was so hot and I was so hungry and my ankle hurt and one of those crazy drivers yelled at Eric when Eric got mad at him for almost running into us.

Well anyway, Erics car was finally repaired in Miami a few days later and we started to head back to Tallahassee. Then, not even an hour into the drive, his car starts choking. I was thinking to myself “Oh god, im going to die, Erics car is going crazy” Eric just gave an “I’m trying really hard to look calm” expression and kept driving. He tried to take it slow for a while and we finally had to pull over in Fort Pierce. Eric thinks it might be related to over heating and maybe the loose spark plug he found. He tried to put it on more secure and let the car cool for a while. We headed back out again and let Eric’s mother know that we might be having more trouble. The car works fine for a little way and then it starts choking again. We had to keep pulling it over every so often to let it cool down.

I was slightly paranoid about missing my flight back to Bozeman, but secretly hoping that I would. Well, I got my wish and supposedly the flight was cancelled anyway. But then again, I guess if I had not changed the ticket before finding out, I could have gotten home sooner when the cancelled flight was taken care of. But at least now I have some time to see Tallahassee. I was kind of sad about being in Miami for so long. I had lots of fun there, but I wanted more time to explore Tallahassee, where Im going to be living in October.
